Well, When You Put It That Way
Mommy: "Sarabeth, do you want to pay me to put your dishes in the dishwasher, or do you want to do it?"
Moment of Silence
Sarabeth, cheerfully: "Oh, I'll do that."

Hawaiian Holiday
Took Sarabeth to hear Handel's "Messiah" at Christmas when she was eight....
She asked if we could leave right after the "Honolulah Chorus."

Permission Slip
Sarabeth and Christopher used to play cars on the floor for hours. Their cars had very exciting lives, driving all over the city rug we had on the floor in the family room (for years, it seemed). One day Sarabeth's car asked Christopher's car, "Will you marry me?" Christopher's car replied, "Well, I'll have to go ask my mom. I don't know if she'll let me."

Wish I'd thought of that...
As we were making Valentines for family and friends this week, Christopher made some I hadn't planned on: one for himself, one for God, and one for Jesus. His simplicity and sincerity -- his childlike faith -- puts Valentine's Day into much greater perspective for all of us.

Already Knew That
Yesterday in science, we studied cartilaginous fish. First we talked about sharks; then we talked about rays, including stingrays. Suddenly Christopher piped up: "Nemo's teacher was a ray. He was their school bus, too."
How about that? Who knew? So I said, "Well, I guess you don't even need this lesson then, do you?"
"No," Christopher answered. "We already know all about rays."

Where Did the Time Go?
My sweet, bubbly, precious baby girl is gone...
but in her place is an intelligent, well-spoken, imaginative, creative tween.
Why can't I have both of them at the same time?
